Cheap and Natural Laundry Detergent Recipe That Actually Works!

I think many of us have struggled to find a good laundry detergent. We live in a time with so many options, but if you’re like me you don’t want to use just anything to wash the clothes that are so close to your family’s skin. But you also don’t want to pay the crazy prices for the “green”, and “natural” alternatives that usually are not much better. You also want something that actually cleans! I’ve struggled with this for a long time, but not anymore! I now have a homemade recipe that’s easy to make, actually cleans, and is cheaper than even basic store detergents!

Things you Will Need:

  • 4 cups infused water ( I like to infuse with mint but you can use anything, including just adding essential oil, or just water for no scent)
  • 1 Bar Fragrance-Free Kirk Castille Soap
  • 1 cup Washing Soda (If you don’t have washing soda but have making soda you can make it by baking your baking soda in the oven at 410 Fahrenheit for 30 minutes )
  • 5-Gallon Bucket

How to make! :

  • First, you want to put your infused water on medium heat over the stove top, while it’s heating up, grate your soap bar into a bowl.
  • Slowly add the soap to the water and mix. You want the soap to melt into the water.
  • Fill your 5-gallon bucket at least a third of the way with water, then add your borax and washing soda, being careful not to breathe it in.
  • Then add your water soap mixture from the stovetop and stir it in.
  • Lastly, finish filling up your bucket with water, and you now have 5 gallons of homemade liquid laundry detergent!
  • Each load of laundry only needs a half-cup of detergent for a nice clean!

Final Thoughts:

It’s easy to make, cheap, and most importantly we know exactly what’s going into it. I highly recommend trying it out for your family!

Troubleshooting :

The only thing I ran into was when I stored my bucket in the basement where it was colder, the detergent would get a little clumpy. This didn’t affect how well it cleaned so I didn’t mind. Storing in a warmer place should fix this issue if you run into it though.
